My first romance will always be one of my favorites -- The Flame and the Flower by Kathleen Woodiwiss.

We have a lot of similar favorites :) And thanks for including me in such exalted company.
I'd probably add Georgette Heyer, Rosemary Sutcliff and Dorothy Dunnett into the mix.

Always interesting to see other people's lists like this. Some overlap, some not. Here there are a few overlapping preferences. :)

It always interesting to see the preferences.
The Outlander was fantastic.
And like J.A. said ~ The Flame and the Flower bu the incomparable Kathleen Woodiwiss.

I adore the film, Gone With the Wind... however without the happy ending, I can't go with it as a romance.

I actually don't think I've ever thought of what books are my favorite. I look over to my shelves full of awesome romance books with sticky notes marking my favorite scenes. I like a good story, lots of emotion where I laugh/cry with the characters, and of course... good heat!

Oh, I love seeing what other people love. I didn't know that Atwood book was a romance...I didn't know what it was about, in fact...

Wow, someone else liked Masfield Park. Loved Outlander and Rebecca, too!
