Randi Alexander new release and book giveaway

I want to thank all the authors and readers at Romance Writers Behaving Badly for having me here today. I love the tagline - "I always start writing with a clean piece of paper and a dirty mind." Doesn't that effectively sum up erotic writing?

I read once where a romance author was asked in a TV interview why she wrote smut. She was speechless for a few seconds, then mumbled something totally un-pithy. The reporter had tossed in the question purely for ratings and shock value.

After that interview, the author researched statistics about the romance book industry, because the next time she was thrown a rogue question like that, she wanted to be prepared.

Did you know Psychology Today states that women who read romance novels make love with their partners 74% more often than women who don’t? According to a scientific study conducted by Harold Leitenberg of The Journal of Sex Research and Psychological Bulletin, when women fantasize frequently (as they do when reading romance novels), they have sex more often, have more fun in bed, and engage in a wider variety of erotic activities.

I'm proud to be a writer who sits down with a clean piece of paper and a dirty mind because I'm making a small contribution to the happiness and satisfaction of women (and men) who spend an extra 74% of their lives making love. Isn't that hot?

My first book, Chase and Seduction was released May 27 from The Wild Rose Press's Cowboy Kink line.

Country music superstar/actor Chase Tanner has yet to be denied anything -- and he’s never wanted anything or anyone more than gorgeous screenplay writer Reno Linden. So when the film they are working on is finally finished, Chase decides to turn up the volume on seducing Reno.
Reno Linden lived a quiet, rural life until she was thrust into the Hollywood scene when her book was adapted to film. Chase Tanner is larger than life, sinfully sexy and hell-bent on getting her into bed. Skittish after a failed wedding engagement, Reno risks the plunge into Chase’s arms, and is surprised that her good girl self can keep up with bad boy Chase.

Though Chase returns to his cowboy roots often, and Reno cherishes the time spent with him on his ranch, the two find their careers pulling them in different directions. Will their attraction survive the glitz and stress of fame?

EXCERPT: Over 18 only
She stepped inside, flipped on a light, and heard the door close behind them. Shrugging out of her coat, Reno set it and her purse on the table and turned to face Chase. She should be the one to start this conversation, to apologize and assure him she wasn’t really the insane woman she’d appeared to be in his trailer yesterday. But no opening line popped into her head.

He stayed back in the shadows, staring at her. “You look great tonight.”

“Thanks.” Reno licked her lips and tasted the red, smudge-proof lipstick. She smoothed her hands over her hips, the red satin dress was a little wrinkled, but she felt sexy in it, perched on three-inch black pumps.

He didn’t move.

She gestured toward the living room. “Beer?”

He shook his head. “I’m not comin’ any closer until I know where I stand.”

After all their long talks, she knew she was dealing with a man who viewed life as black and white. And this was definitely gray. “It’s not that simple, Chase. I—”

“Just yes or no, Reno. Will you give me another chance?” His voice softened, and his lips pressed tightly together.

She appreciated that he didn’t just seduce his way into her bedroom. He’d taken the time to bring her to the children's hospital with him, and he let her steer this conversation. “On one condition.”

“What’s that?”

“That we sit and talk about what happened.”

Using an index finger, he pushed his hat back on his head. The light hit his face, and illuminated his grin. “Whatever you want, Reno.”

To celebrate the release of Chase and Seduction, I'm giving away, to one lucky *commenter, an e-copy of my novella Her Cowboy Stud. Just leave a comment today and we'll choose a winner tomorrow.

After the battering that Romance readers (and writers) have taken lately, it's nice to have some positive statistics to throw at the nay-sayers.

Your book sounds like fun!

So true, Sarah. You never know what kind of reception you'll receive when you say you're a romance writer. Some people are excited and curious. Others make that sour face.

The world needs more romance, in my humble opinion.

Randi, congrats on your new release. Looks cowboy delish.

So true, the world DOES need more romance. We would be living in a much happier place.

Thanks, Savanna, 'delish' is a great word to describe Chase. Glad you stopped by!

People find it easy to be judgemental but not so easy to listen and learn. Being a writer is work. Keep up the good work!
