An Everlasting Bite

My CP, who writes all matter of sexy-as-all-get-out characters has a new release happening today, so I thought I'd ask her over here and tell us a little about it. Please welcome, Stacey Kennedy!

~*~

Werewolves, sexy or dangerous?  In the world of The Blue Bloods, they’re both.  No wonder this scrumptious creature is my favorite to write.  My idea of a sexy man is tough, protective, but with a heart that makes a woman sigh.  I’ve always liked my hero’s a bit rough around the edges.  Truthfully, most of the men I’ve written, I still haven’t decided if I love or hate them.  But then came along the werewolf, Briggs, and he has captivated me.

The strength they hold, the magic in the shift, the beauty of the wolf―swoon central, right?  But it was more than that for me.  It’s the way Briggs supported his mate, not demanded anything of her, and never came at her in a typical “arrogant” way.  No, he just loved her.  Is he an impossible man?  Maybe.  Normally really powerful characters tend to have way too much testosterone pulsing through their veins to think straight, but hey, that’s why it’s fiction.

So, let’s hear it, what type of men do you all like?  The tough ones that you could beat with a stick at times or the soft ones that make you smile?

Love is born between strangers, yet built upon a bond soul deep―one Alpha’s vow to protect his mate from looming danger, all the while, mending her soul and stirring her wolfish desires.

A vicious werewolf attack in Plymouth, Minnesota leaves a young woman violated, bitten and now, transformed into werewolf. But Rynn Murphy doesn’t have to face this transformation alone—she has her mate by her side. And the charming Briggs―Beta to the Patriarch, Valor―is eager to ease her into this new life and mend her battered soul.
With only weeks to adjust to her new fur, Rynn, follows Briggs while he assists in locating the daughter of the Montana’s Alpha, who was abducted from her home.  But this journey is not without danger. And soon, they discover the ones who have taken this young wolf do not want her found and will stop at nothing to keep her hidden. Or so it may seem, as bodies begin to drop around them, the murderous attempts start to appear more as a hit than a smoke screen—leaving only one question, who is the intended target…

Happy Pre-Holidays! Let's Gear Up For Movies!

The Scariest Movies Ever . . .

In the tradition of watching lots and lots of movies over the holidays or perhaps getting a movie in your Christmas stocking, how about taking a journey back in time with me to look at some of the scariest movies ever made? I pulled up Google, did a search and after perusing several lists, here’s what I came up with.

To make things interesting, leave a comment and tell us about the scariest movie you ever saw and why it scared the bejeebers out of you. I’ll be back to choose a winner in a few days and post their name on the blog. Winner can select one free ebook from my catalog here: http://www.ketadiablo.com

Good luck and don’t forget to scare us!

* * *

The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
Clarice Starling, a precociously self-disciplined FBI trainee, is dispatched by her boss, Section Chief Jack Crawford, the FBI's most successful tracker of serial killers, to see whether she can learn anything useful from Dr. Hannibal Lecter. Lecter's a gifted psychopath whose nickname is "The Cannibal" because he likes to eat parts of his victims. Isolated by his crimes from all physical contact with the human race, he plays an enigmatic game of "Clue" with Starling, providing her with snippets of data that, if she is smart enough, will lead her to the criminal.

Psycho (1960)

Norman Bates loves his Mother. She has been dead for the past twenty years, or so people think. Norman knows better though. He has lived with Mother ever since leaving the hospital in the old house up on the hill above the Bates motel. One night Norman spies on a beautiful woman that checks into the hotel as she undresses. Norman can't help but spy on her. Mother is there though. She is there to protect Norman from his filthy thoughts. She is there to protect him with her butcher knife.

The Exorcist (1973)
The Exorcist became not only a bestselling literary phenomenon, but one of the most frightening and controversial novels ever written. When the author adapted his book to the screen two years later, it then became one of the most terrifying movies ever made.) Blatty fictionalized the true story of a child's demonic possession in the 1940s. The deceptively simple story focuses on Regan, the 11-year-old daughter of a movie actress residing in Washington, D.C.; the child apparently is possessed by an ancient demon.

Alien (1979)
Director Ridley Scott deftly combined sci-fi and horror to create a grotesque, visually stunning technological wonder that set the criteria for later films of the genre. The crew of the spacecraft Nostromo must contend with a murderous alien invader that lives on human flesh. A dark, mechanical milieu lends to the eerie feeling of grim isolation.

The Shining (1980)
The Shining quickly became a benchmark in the literary career of Stephen King. This tale of a troubled man hired to care for a remote mountain resort over the winter, his loyal wife, and their uniquely gifted son slowly but steadily unfolds as secrets from the Overlook Hotel's past are revealed, and the hotel itself attempts to claim the very souls of the Torrence family.

A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
What would a scary movie list be without one slicer-dicer from the 1980s? After all, director Wes Craven is the indisputable king of horror, who's also responsible for the Scream franchise. Intelligent characters and—believe it or not—a thought-provoking screenplay set this first installment in the Freddie Krueger series apart from other films of the genre.

Jacob's Ladder (1990)
Vietnam veteran Jacob Singer (Tim Robbins) thinks he is going insane. Or worse. When his nightmares begin spilling into his waking hours, Jacob believes he is experiencing the aftereffects of a powerful drug tested on him during Vietnam. Or perhaps his posttraumatic stress disorder is worse than most. Whatever is happening to him, it is not good. Director Adrian Lyne sparks our interest and maintains high production values, but this confusing film chokes on its "surprise" ending.

The Mummy (1932)
Three archaeologists searching for the 4,000-year-old tomb of Princess Ananka among the ruins in Egypt are warned of grave consequences if they violate her tomb. Madness strikes one and as the others return to England with a mummy a series of murders take place as the mummy destroys those who desecrated the secret tomb.

Seven (1995)
A serial killer forces each of his victims to die by acting out one of the seven deadly sins. The murder scene is then artfully arranged into a grotesque tableau, a graphic illustration of each mortal vice. From the jittery opening credits to the horrifying (and seemingly inescapable) concluding twist, director David Fincher immerses us in a murky urban twilight where everything seems to be rotting, rusting, or molding; the air is cold and heavy with dread. Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt are the detectives who skillfully track down the killer--all the while unaware that he has been closing in on them, as well.

Nosferatu (1922)
The greatest horror film of all! A long time ago in middle Europe, a decrepit, forbidding castle stood. Casting an ominous shadow over the townspeople who dare not look upon it, the unholy dwelling is home to one Count Orlok (Max Schreck), an undead night creature with a taste for human blood. Showcasing the extremely eerie Schreck, "Nosferatu" is the first screen adaptation of Bram Stoker's classic novel "Dracula," stylistically directed by the legendary F.W. Murnau.

About Where The Rain Is Made:

After a decadent-looking savage captures Francesca DuVall and her brother Marsh, she spends every waking moment planning an escape. She didn’t count on the powerful draw of desire interfering with her scheme while in the clutches of the brutal Cheyenne Dog Soldiers.

Ethan Gray is a curator at a national museum . . . most of the time. When he travels through time to help his beloved People he’s Meko, leader of the most revered and feared tribe of the plains. Their worlds are decades apart and yet Meko can’t resist the dark beauty he kidnapped during a raid. Violent battles loom, but there’s only one he must win – the capture of Cesca’s heart forever.

From the windswept plains of Colorado and the harsh life of a Dog Soldier to the placid life of a curator, their love was fueled by passion and kindled by destiny.

”If you love romance and Native American mysticism, legend and lore, this book is for you.” Paranormal Romance Reviews – 5 Stars

”Through the lives of these three people, Ms. Diablo spins a vivid account of how grueling and sometimes brutal the life of a Dog Soldier could be. I loved how she wove the rituals and beliefs of the Cheyenne people throughout the tale as if you were there seeing it first hand. This is a historical romance sure to magically sweep you back in time. A must read!” Amazon Reviewer, 5 Stars

”Ms. Diablo , paranormal is sometimes so unrealistic on paper, kudo's for capturing that completely mystical moment of Ehan's transformation from man to raven & vise-versa.....not once did it distract me.” Amazon reviewer, 5 Stars

”What a wonderfully written historical. The amazing attention to detail really made the story POP! Filled to the brim with heart stopping characters, a riveting plot and a love that spans time, this one will remain on my shelf for years to come and be revisited often.” Seriously Reviewed, 5 Stars

”I had a hard time putting down this compelling read. Diablo seamlessly wove Cheyenne Dog Soldier legend and history with time travel, creating a unique dual setting. The chemistry between Cesca and Ethan sizzled on the page. I'd never before heard of the Dog Soldiers, but loved how Diablo included those details to educate as well as entertain. Great cast of characters, too. I'm crossing my fingers for a sequel! C.A. Masterson,” Amazon reviewer, 5 Stars

”I highly recommend this very unique and special book to all book lovers. It's complex, with so many layers. Meko was an honorable man, patient to a fault with his wild-cat of a mate. Cesca was torn from day one, hated the violence around her, but knew she would always love her dark warrior.  A compelling read” Happily-Ever-After Reviews. 5 Stars

"Where The Rain Is Made by Keta Diablo is an intense, sensual, compelling, adventurous story that will have you biting your nails while sitting on the edge of your seat begging for more with the turn of every page.” Recommended Read, Black Raven Erotic Cafe, 5 Stars!

MEKO FROM WHERE THE RAIN IS MADE:

November Loves

Someone asked recently what I liked about November. The first thing that came to mind was Thanksgiving goodies, pies, special side dishes, and family getting together. Then I decided to make a list.

The sound of dry leaves underfoot when I'm walking ... the soft crunch and the flutter of them blowing across the sidewalk.

Their myriad colors when they're covering the ground. Especially after a rainfall!

Football is in the air, and everyone is playing, from little kids to adults. There are often some nice views from the sidelines. ;)

People are starting to get into the holiday spirit, and houses get dressed up in beautiful colored lights, or are outlined in tiny white bulbs.

*cough* You'll never guess which one is *cough* my house. o_O

The scent in the air is clean, yet filled with an occasional whiff of smoke from a fireplace or a pile of burning leaves. The scent of baking pies brings back many happy memories. November is when I stock up on spices, extracts, canned pumpkin, sugar, salt, pepper, and flour. All these things keep well, and the stores provide wonderful sales before the baking frenzy of the holidays. I take advantage of them whenever I can.

What are your favorite things about this month? Trips to see family? A four-day weekend? Football? I'd love to hear what you enjoy this time of year.

The best piece of clothing ... to take off

I have to admit it: in fiction, I have a thing for men in leather pants. I spent two seasons drooling through Farscape and three long films admiring a certain ranger-king's leather-clad, er, legs, damn it: I have a right. Yes, yes, I know that in reality getting those things on and off would be more comical than sexy -- and would probably require a terribly stinky amount of baby powder -- but a girl can still appreciate the eye candy.

Which leads me to ponder other clothing items on men.

Like boots. Nothing says rowr like a man in boots. Cowboy, Hessian, motorcycle; they all string my bikini.

As do loose jeans. Worn commando. Mmm hmmm. True, the zipper-down maneuver in such a situation is tricky, and it has to be done sloooow, but doesn't that just make it yummier, in the end?

I also like me some slinky boxers, for when commando isn't an option (and boo to those times, incidentally). Nothing says touchable ass like the feel of one through a thin layer o' slink.

And, you can call me fetishy all you want, but I have a thing for men in lace. Like, those long early-18th-century court cuffs. Don't blame me: it's all Lestat's fault.

There's also something dangerously sexy about a guy wearing a weapon. In historicals, the sword makes me salivate. In sci-fi and space opera, I am all about Han Solo's blaster. (Mind out of gutter! I mean it, now. I'm talking about clothing, not metaphor.)

Of course, there are also clothing items that completely unsexify a hero for me: item one, those silky smoking jackets that the dudes in sitcoms always seem to wear when they're trying to get their smolder on. 'Cause nothing says trying-to-be-Hef like a silky smoking jacket.

Also: tightie whities. Why do so many lurid photos of men show them in these things? Reminds me of laundry.

Finally on the not-sexy side: droop-booty trousers. Can't tell you how many hot bods are ruined by the droop-booty look. Ruined, I say. Pull those things up! Or down. It matters not to me.

Anybody got some yes-pleases or oh-icks to add?

Pimping Your Read

Okay, you have the book finished, your edits are complete, and you're pacing the floor worrying about getting the message out that your baby is on the way.

Sometimes it seems like an insurmountable task to get a title in front of the public so they are even  aware of your newest release. A book video is one means of celebrating and promoting at the same time.

I've seen some fantastic trailers, scripted so tightly that in 90-120 seconds they capture the essence of a longer print work and I end up saying, "Must read". *blink*

It's hard to imagine reducing a 90,000 word book to a two minute sound bite, but for my new erotic western, Five Card Stud, debuting from Ellora's Cave on December 1st, I think this video  is a great snapshot of what's to come.
I'm sharing my new trailer, created by romance author, Alanna Coca, with a  sexy, original soundtrack written and performed by Canadian blues musician, Marv Lee.

What do you think? Anyone have other great book videos  they've seen lately? Do trailers influence what you decide to buy?

Sultry Sunday- Are We Who We Write?

When you look at this picture, what do you see?

If I didn't know this person I would say she is a sweet person with a personable smile. She seems shy to some extent. Maybe a mom...maybe a wife...someone's daughter...maybe works in an office.

In reality, yes, she is a mom, a wife, a daughter and...an erotic romance writer.

But just because I write this genre doesn't mean I always live it.

I know the old clique "we are what we eat" holds true...but are we who we write?

Is every character based on yourself or someone you know? Do have sex day in and day out like the characters in your books? Are you a curvaceous woman with ample breasts? Do you dress provocatively all the time? Is sex always on your mind? (OK- I'll give you this one).

Most of my characters are based on myself- well, at least my physical attributes and some added fantasy ideas of how I would like to appear. Sexier. More voluptuous. More adventurous. Very independent.

How much of yourself should you put into a character? Or should you even put the likeness of yourself in print?
When it comes to physical attributes I am completely comfortable with it...but when it comes to behind the doors- not so much. I do NOT want to expose my personal sex life to the world...or at least my fans. That is no one's business but my own.

Do I have sex on a whim? Possibly. Do I want sex 24/7? Ummm, sometimes. Do I fantasize about sex? Well, yes, who doesn't.

In my erotic novellas I write about wanton women and their sex lives...THEIR sex lives, not mine. Maybe I live vicariously through these women...maybe not.

Do you think readers of your work think that just because you're an erotic or romance author that you live like your characters?

Saturday Flash Fiction Scene ~ Stud Service

Ah, the romance novels known as Bodice Rippers... so what if the roles were reversed?
~~~
Stud Service
Weary after a long day’s ride, Sokarra tossed her riding gloves and crop onto the entryway’s mahogany table near the tall pillar candle. The warm glow felt welcoming. Her sister, Valessia, must have remembered to light it, as she usually did whenever Sokarra returned after sundown.
Removing her wide-brimmed dark hat, Sokarra tossed it onto the wrought iron stand. She smiled as the hat settled perfectly. A cloud of reddish dust formed in the mellow gleam cast by the candle’s high flame. Hardly a surprise, since she had spent the day inspecting her vast rangelands and many of the animal herds, in particular one horse herd where some of her most superior stock had been bred.
After extinguishing the candle, Sokarra launched up the long winding stairway, dimly lit by two rising moons. Even though her vigor was on the wane, she kept her rapid pace, her boot heels ringing on the heavy wooden steps.
Throwing open the door to her floor of rooms, she entered the dark interior, illumined only by the amber rays of the smaller moon. Once she had closed the door, Sokarra yielded to her tired muscles slowly sauntering to the brass candle stand that dominated the center of her large receiving room.
The filigreed decorative stand was her height and she easily pulled forth the laser wand from its pocket. Using the wand, she lit the giant beeswax candle’s three wicks, then watched each tiny flame leap to life.
As she freed her hair from two barrettes, she heard a slight rustling of sound that had her hesitating for a bare instant. Someone dared invade her home.
Since Sokarra never invited company at this hour, she figured the intruder was up to no good. No good at all. Tamping down her fury, she shook her waist-length hair as she normally would. Pivoting, she moved with a leisurely stride toward the pair of eyes observing her.
Sokarra felt his predator’s gaze as keenly as she would the eyes of a hungry mountain lion. He stood behind the door of her library office, watching from where the door cracked open.
Sokarra smiled to herself and rested her hand on her hip, next to the handle of her long-lash whip. The prize fool was about to receive a lesson he would never forget.
He...his scent had been disguised, yet her trained sense of smell easily ferreted out his youth and inexperience. His sheer foolhardiness. Impressed that fear did not run through his veins, she followed his stealthy retreat deeper into her sumptuously appointed office.
Before entering, she halted at the lighting panel and pressed on enough illumination to see clearly. There was no way for him to escape, except past her. Unless he possessed some method to open her hidden door, then find his way out her private tunnel.
He made a dash to conceal himself behind the heavy draping in front of her floor-to-ceiling window. Sokarra charged inside, then stopped cracking her whip. The end of the lash struck the floor before him. He halted faster than a stallion who had caught the scent of a mare’s heat.
Not hesitating, Sokarra drew the lash back. With a flick of her wrist, she sliced his sleeve open, exposing his upper arm. He whirled around, facing her. The pale gold-green of his eyes registered, but did nothing to lessen the flames of her rage.
As she did for sport, and to amuse herself, Sokarra repeatedly cut his thick leather jerkin with the strike of her whip. Though, his style of jerkin was typically worn by an accomplished warrior, she didn’t recognize the House he represented.
When the garment hung in neat strips, she twirled the lash above her head several times, then sliced it from his body. The ruined garment fell to the floor surrounding him like so much litter.
His gaze did not stray from her. One of Sokarra’s brows arched at the sight of his chest and loins, virile athleticism at its best.
“Speak,” she commanded while admiring his steadfast nerve.
“Your beauty could not be described.”
After a sharp mirthless laugh, Sokarra raised her whip. She snapped the lash twice splitting each leg of his leather pants, all the way from his waist down to his kneecap. In seconds his lean strong hips appeared, then the leather flopped forward, exposing his manhood.
“Do I continue, scoundrel? Or, do you tell me what I want to know?”
“Your incomparable skill with a whip could not be described, either.” One side of his admittedly sensual mouth curled upwards while a hint of amusement lit his eyes.
Sokarra gave her hair a toss and slanted her hip. Languidly, she coiled her whip. “Whoever sent you on this mission is a fool.”
“As I have been compromised and now cannot move for fear of falling upon my face, yes, I agree with you.”
Sokarra did not care for unanswered questions, his, or any question left unanswered. Danger always owned the advantage. Still, the harm her whip could do to his flesh would not gain her the answers she sought.
Sliding out her dagger, she approached. From his scent she knew he did not prime himself to attack her. Not yet.
Halting close before him, she deliberately gazed at his cock. While bold in size and shape, it was the color that truly appealed to her. His skin reminded her of golden-tinted sand and his manhood was a shade darker, a shade richer.
“Perhaps.” She slipped the side of the blade down his taut loins. “I could use you for stud service.”
Like the warrior he was, he didn’t move. Only a slight alteration in his breathing let her know the affect she had won.
Sokarra knelt, letting the dagger linger against his skin. With a flash of her blade she sliced his pant leg from the opening at his knee to the top of his boot.
“That is, scoundrel, unless you provide me with what I want to know.”
Pivoting on the balls of her feet, she quickly repeated her action. Yielding to gravity, his leather pants, a match for his jerkin, dropped to the floor with soft thud. Sokarra rose upwards, lightly dragging the blade up his inner thigh.
“You would make a pleasing decoration for my bed. Especially as your cock juts now. And...once I cut off your excellently made boots.”
He didn’t flinch, this warrior, despite his youthful age. As she slowly circled him, as she enjoyed the handsome contours of his lithe and beautifully muscled body, nothing fell from his lips.
“So much to say earlier,” she mockingly crooned. “However, as my stud, your absence of words would be preferred.”
“I cannot deny your right to my services as your stud. I have entered your home uninvited.”
Sokarra bent, quickly slashing through the lacings of his boots.
Flirty Friday- Body Language- What is it saying?
People watching can be fun- especially when in a location known for single people to be hanging out. Have you ever watched someone in bar? The come-hither looks and glances? The discreet glances between two people in the office? Or the blatant flirt when a man 'accidentally' brushes against you?
When using body language to flirt most people use their eyes, mouths, arms/hands and for women, their legs.
Imagine being in a crowded bar, wanton females everywhere and an attractive man walks in-how do you draw his attention to only you? Buy him a drink and wink at him as the bartender gestures towards you? Possibly but too clique. Do you flash him your ultra bright smile? Make direct eye contact and have a sultry look in your eye? Or D, all of the above?
Which ever you chose may work or then again it may not. But remember this the magical power of flirting with body language speaks more than words.
From the shy glance a women gives a man she's attracted to how she gently touches his arm when he's near. Even the simplest eye contact when he's talking to her. It shows interest and that he's the only person in the world at that moment.
Don't you love it when a man makes eye contact, smiles that sly smile like you're the only woman on Earth. Or better yet, he adds that little wink combined with the sly smile. Ohhh, send shivers up my spine. Total turn on for me.
So what was the best body language you've received or given to someone else?
Thursday Thirteen - Pick a Pic
I've been working on trailers for my books recently, and have learned about color, balance, light, dark, mood, and so much more. One thing was to look for the "rule of threes" which is to divide the picture into thirds diagonally, vertically, or horizontally. Certain things lend themselves to this. For example, a photo of a beach. 1/3 is sand, 1/3 is water, and 1/3 is sky. Place a few sailboats in the picture and you create a pleasing landscape. Today, I'm sharing 13 ways to pick a good picture. In order to make it fun, I'm using pix of hunks. (Ah... now you're paying attention!) You'll notice how evident this "rule of threes" is after you begin to look for it.
Quick note: clicking on the pictures will open them in a new window in a larger size so you can see more detail.
1. The rule of threes shows in the vertical axis of this picture. The white shirt on the left is balanced by the wider area of ripped abs and tan skin in the center, and only a bit of white on the far right side. Also, it has a second set of threes - horizontally. The body, the narrow belt, and the jeans. Not only is the model easy to look at, but the picture itself is well composed.
(Khyff Antonello from For Women Only)
2. Balance of light and shadow. This photo is lit from the side, casting portions of the model's body and face in shadow. The effect is an air of mystery. The expression of the face lends itself to mystery; what is he thinking? The lighting adds to that mysterious aura. His curly hair is darkly shaded and we are unable to make out much detail. Likewise, what we can see of his half-revealed body suggests physical beauty. We want to know more. Thirds: dark hair, light skin, greenish blue shirt.
(Senth Antonello from At the Mercy of Her Pleasure)
3. They say clothes make the man, but this is one case where they aren't needed. This gentleman has managed to give us a distinct impression about his personality while wearing only a wristwatch. Contrast is the key here. The white background makes his dark skin show up all the more plainly, visually putting him in conflict with his surroundings. His hands on his hips suggests argument, and the tilt of his head says he is ready to fight for ... something. Again, the vertical threes are the white on either side and the dark skin in the center, and horizontally, his face, shoulders/chest area, and lower abs.
4. Mystery as well as seductive pose and the rule of threes. The dark area covering his face, the fair skin, and dark pants make one set of threes. Another is the background burgundy, skin tones, and black. The pose shows off the body but not the face, allowing us to decide for ourselves what he might look like. Is he a raven-haired and bearded man with an earring? A blond beach boy with shaggy hair? A goth wearing guyliner and black lipstick? Or just the boy next door? We want to help him pull off that shirt so we can see.
5. Threes are obvious here. The dark background, highlighted areas, and shadowed skin. Vertically and horizontally, the picture is divided. And in this case (lesser so above) some of the division is diagonal.
6. Another good example of threes, this one also diagonal (in the other direction). Skin, background, highlights. Horizontally, there is the upper chest, abs, and jeans. Though the line of his body is evenly divided in half, the shadows make it seem like three areas, especially on the left side (facing him). Can you see how the raised leg also adds to the horizontal effect?
7. Vertical lighting, threes, and good use of lighting. The pose suggests several things, and sets a mood. The threes here are easily seen vertically, with the lighter wall, body, and shadow. Also, note the dark hair, skin tones, and dark shorts. Because he has dark leg hair, it ties in the tones from one part to the other. This was a much larger picture and included a lot of unneeded background, which I cut. When looking for a dramatic effect, move in as closely as possible.
8. This picture uses mystery (we can't see all of the model, or see what he's seeing), highlights and overall lighting on the water, plus several types of divisions of three. Take the tiles in front of him, and contrast them to the moving water behind him. Put the model in the center, and you have a set of threes. This works vertically as well. Try to find more. They may be indistinct at first, but they are there.
9. This photo is intentionally dark, to set the mood. The model is Asian, and has darker skin. His eyes are shadowed, as are his abdominal muscles. The background is dark. The pose suggests he is waiting and watching, perhaps for an opportunity to spring. There is an air of danger. Yet this is offset by the white belt. It's new, crisp, and tucked in. With that one detail, the artist has completely changed the tone of this picture. Seeing the white belt one begins to interpret the expression and pose as more playful. Perhaps he's about to "pounce" on a lover and shower them with kisses. Imagine this picture with a black leather, metal studded belt. What would the message imply then?
10. This picture makes a strong statement in two ways: with color, and with pose. The clothing implies both a cowboy influence as well as Eastern. The first impression is "belly-dancing cowboy" which is incongruous at first, but the pose itself, as well as the vibrant color make us believe it works. The sheen on the model's chest suggests he is dancing with energy, and indeed the red veil-like material flows around him as if in movement. Note the three sections here as well. Right to left, white, body, red. Strong statements. What impression does it make on you?
11. Here is another obvious use of the rule of threes, as well as color. Note the top layer of white, the body, and bottom layer of white. There are also thirds in the tie and jacket, abs, and dark pants. The position of the foot implies power, and the hand implies acceptance. The pose says that he has been subjected to the woman's authority, and although he is not flat on his back, we assume he is eager to please. Why? If he were angry at being treated in this way, he would be clenching his fist. Instead, the hand is open and accepting. This pic was in the trailer for Alitus, Tales of the Chosen.
12. Several aspects make this a good picture. You'll notice, he has cat ears -- this is Jawk from the Tales of the Chosen series. His hair is pulled back and secured with a beaded clasp. This reveals details about the culture of the character that go along with the book. We get the impression he's a student (he is) and that he cares about his appearance, but prefers to dress casually. The backpack figures prominently in the book. This a good picture due to contrast between sky and body, sky and buildings, plus body and buildings. The dark hair and backpack draw the eye downward, but the lighter colored arms complete the concept of threes. The sky, buildings, and general lower background also provide three divisions. Can you see more?
13. Here's a highly sensual pic that is quite obviously following the rule of threes. upper body, the cheeks and part of the chair, and the dark area beneath the chair. There are also vertical divisions. The cheeks are separated by a dark color which is echoed in the upper body's shadows, and the shadows beneath the chair. Contrast is important; shine on the body is vital to the picture. Color likewise takes a front-row seat. Would this be as powerful if it were presented in natural soft colors with a faded antique look?
Picking a good picture can be easy if you recall the rule of threes, contrast, use of color, and pix that invite the eye to discover more of a mystery. Below is a trailer about my various characters. You can see how pictures like these can be used to good advantage.
My first F/F experience...WOW
When I first started my venture as a writer years ago I was a lowly stringer for a local newspaper. I reported on council meetings and boring school board meeting. For adventure I'd interview the oldest woman in the county. I think she was 92- my memory's not as good as it used to be.
Since those rewarding days I've transformed into a published author, an SEO and web content writer and a contributing blog writer. I still attend meetings and interview interesting people for feature articles for another local newspaper but boy, oh boy- have times changed.
My first novel was a sweet romance. Boy meets girl, boy sleeps with (no sex scene visited- just the idea was presented), girl gets pregnant and in the end boy marries girl. Happily ever after. The end.
My second novel was a little more sassy with a little saucy heroine mixed in. My first sex scene is revealed. And WOW- did I like it.
My third and fourth novels, scheduled for release in early 2011, are pure erotica. Sex, sex and more sex. Erotic phrases, naughty words and hot and heavy scenes with lotsa skin.
My third novel is basically an erotic novel filled with man and woman in a motel room for the proverbial romp in the hay.
But it's the fourth novel that even had me blushing momentarily.
My first girl on girl scene. What? I wrote that? Why, yes I did. I wrote it. I haven't lived it...but I wrote it. I am saying this proudly.
It took a lot of imagination and creativity and secret moments of writing- after all, I am a mother to three children- I would be curious as to what my kids would think.
Needless to say this was a completely new avenue for me to take. I haven;t shared the novel cover with my family, God forbid when my parents (my Catholic parents) see it. Sheesh, I maybe grounded for a year.
So tell me, if you've written any form of GLBT novel- how did you come about it? How did you write it if you don't live it?
Bodice Ripper
I hear the term "Bodice Ripper" occasionally. For some reason the term seems cheesy and makes me think of the books my mom's generation read. I asked some of my writer pals about the term. I noticed many writers don't care for the term too much and are quick to correct the person who uses the phrase. Some consider "Bodice Ripper" a derogatory term for all romances and was inspired by some early historical romances that featured rape fantasies or included rape as part of the plot. Today this term is used most often by people who do not read romance books.
Today's romance is sensitive to the needs and emotions of women; rape is not part of story lines. (Oh, the sexy might be rough and kinky...wink, wink.) Romance writers focus on the emotion and sensuality between characters; providing the reader a chance to escape from every day life into a variety of plots and a world of passion.
Erotic romance is a story at the more erotic end of the romance spectrum. These adventures will include intense details of sexual liaisons that may happen frequently between the main characters and are vital to the plot. These stories are usually very sensual and emotional as a strong relationship develops between the characters.
Take a break this fall and check out an erotic romance. If you hear somebody call it "a bodice ripper" tell them to read one... they'll be hooked! Passion is such a wonderful word and so much, much more.
I think we all would like to have this sort of passion in our lives. Undo our bodices slowly with tender kisses, nibbles, and soft caresses or rip 'em off in the lustful heat of the moment! Take me away.....
But then again...I paid alot of money for this bodice. You rip it, I just might spank you.
Sultry Sunday- A li'l Halloween fun
Tis the holiday for ghosts and goblins...for the kids at least. Here at the RWBB Blog, we're into more enticing moments of "trick or treating".
"Is someone under the weather...need a little TLC today? Let the good doctor have a look at that..."
"Did someone report a fire? Is it too hot in here for you?"
"Don't resist me...or I'll have to handcuff you."
"Is there any extra credit available to raise my grade?"
"I'd do anything to help my grade."
"Pirates Ahoy, Mate...the sea has never been friendly to a man...but I am."
Whether you're having a night filled with tricks or treats...enjoy...both can be naughty.
Saturday Sneak Peak Excerpt ~ Meet My Witch Heroine
Omy, I hope everyone is getting ready for some spooktacular-sexy celebrating. I’m betting this will be a Halloween/Samhain to remember for many.
Currently, I’m headed toward the finish line for my latest paranormal erotic romance. ~Kandy Apple and Her Hellhounds~ will most likely be my next submission. I say ‘most likely’ because more than once life has done a one eighty on me. Still, that’s the plan, Sam. And, I’m sticking to it.
Oh! The good news. BRANDED BY THE TEXANS, my cowboy erotic romance menage, set in an alternate world I call the Three Star Republic of Texas, will be IN PRINT soon! I received the cover art file a couple of days ago. Wahooooooooooo...
But, back to my witchy heroine. She was inspired by all the *real witch* books I’ve read over the years, the first being The Diary of a Witch by Sybil Leek. She was also inspired by Samantha in the TV series, Bewitched. And of course, I added in, the three witches in the TV series, Charmed.
Yet, my heroine is none of those. Kandace, or Kandy Apple, is completely, independently unto herself. In appearance, thought, and in action.
Sneak Peak *Unedited* Blurb and Excerpt from my WIP ~ Kandy Apple and Her Hellhounds
Blurb ~
What happens when two of Hades’ most mission-accomplished Hellhounds find just the right witch for Halloween?
Excerpt ~
“You’re an Enduoir witch,” they chorused together, their gazes eerily intense.
“What the hell is that?” Kandace’s anger sparked through her. Swivelling her head back and forth, she glared at them both.
“Before we explain I believe introductions are in order, don’t you?” Mr. Evening Suit arched a brow in the same style as Cary Grant. With debonair ease, he placed his martini glass on a nearby tray.
Kandace did a double take, emotionally. “Fine, introductions. Who are you?”
“I am Zindale David Victorre, or Zin for short, and this is my twin brother.” With controlled elegance, he gestured to Mr. Tuxedo Man.
“I am Zolivar Dean Victorre. Zol for short. May we know your name?” He placed his glass next to his brother’s. His gaze remained on her, polite, but volcanic.
The entire scene would have tickled Kandace silly, if she hadn’t been on guard and wondering if they did actually know her true heritage. Could it be they had the answers she hadn’t been able to find?
“Kandace Sylvia Winter.” She’d decided to tell them her real name. What did it ultimately matter with these two, anyway? It wasn’t as though they couldn’t find out.
Their gazes snapped together as if they’d been struck by a sudden revelation. Kandace almost giggled because of the cartoon-like absurdity. Course, she hadn’t been around twins much, so who knew how they behaved with each other.
“Is something wrong?” she prompted.
“Kandy. Is that your nickname?” Zindale’s gaze glowed.
Kandace swore she witnessed blue flames leap for a split second in the depths of his eyes. Okay, now she really wanted to know who and what they were.
“Yes, since you ask. Oh, I get it now.” After giving her hair a shake, she raised one shoulder in an attitude of indifference. “Kandy Apple, my nickname, especially around Halloween.”
“Is that why you’re wearing that deliciously sexy red dress?” Zol let her know by his slow perusal of her body, he found her attractive, to say the effing least.
“I like the color. I’m also fond of candy apples. Make of that what you will.” Kandace tipped up her glass, draining it. There really was no defense against their lustful imaginings. She certainly didn’t have to take a mental peek to know the direction of their thoughts.
“We want to lick Kandy Apple for Halloween,” they rasped together.
Their voices were such polished restraint, Kandace didn’t spin around and leave. She didn’t gaze directly at them, either. We, they’d said we. Nope, she wasn’t going down that rabbit hole by asking what they meant.
Dammit, hole. Obviously, they both wanted her sex hole. No wonder those women had dreamy expressions. Two, two, at once. Oh, Goddess, why was she remembering the stupid Doublemint twins? Okay, she had seen a YouTube vid of the old commercial recently because a friend had e-mailed it.
“No, you are not licking this Kandy Apple for Halloween. I’ll send you some real candy apples.”
Why were her feet super-glued to the floor? Hell, why did her skin burn with what could only be described as raunchy desire? Frakking-crap, why didn’t one of them say something before she crushed her glass? “I believe I’m in need of another drink.”
FLIRTY FRIDAY
Borrowing Kayelle Allen’s great idea from her Wednesday post, I Googled the word “Flirt” and here are the first five listings.
Flirtcatalog.com –Sexy clothes for women
Flirtprom.com—Award-winning prom dresses
Flirt.com—“is the naughtiest singles community by far”
Flirtcosmetics.com—they sell—what else?—cosmetics
Then I Googled the image of “flirt” and the images you see are a sampling from the first page of my search.
The word "flirt" has so many different connotations, as you can see from the web listings and images. It can be sweet and innocent, or naughty and sexy, and anywhere in between.
Other words for "flirt": Trifle with, toy with, tease, lead on.
Becca Simone writes FLIRTatious erotic romance for The Wild Rose Press. Her short story, Midnight Treat, is a Halloween tale, just perfect for this time of year. You can learn more about Becca at her website.
