November Loves

Someone asked recently what I liked about November. The first thing that came to mind was Thanksgiving goodies, pies, special side dishes, and family getting together. Then I decided to make a list.

The sound of dry leaves underfoot when I'm walking ... the soft crunch and the flutter of them blowing across the sidewalk.

Their myriad colors when they're covering the ground. Especially after a rainfall!

Football is in the air, and everyone is playing, from little kids to adults. There are often some nice views from the sidelines. ;)

People are starting to get into the holiday spirit, and houses get dressed up in beautiful colored lights, or are outlined in tiny white bulbs.

*cough* You'll never guess which one is *cough* my house. o_O

The scent in the air is clean, yet filled with an occasional whiff of smoke from a fireplace or a pile of burning leaves. The scent of baking pies brings back many happy memories. November is when I stock up on spices, extracts, canned pumpkin, sugar, salt, pepper, and flour. All these things keep well, and the stores provide wonderful sales before the baking frenzy of the holidays. I take advantage of them whenever I can.

What are your favorite things about this month? Trips to see family? A four-day weekend? Football? I'd love to hear what you enjoy this time of year.

Yes, that's it exactly. Lovely, evocative post.

Thank you Vivien! This time of year is a transitory phase - from summer into winter, and all the craziness of the holidays is starting to show its over-commercialized yet colorful head. November ushers in the final month, and is both full of sweet memories of the year gone by, and the looking-forward to the year's end. I suppose it's one of my favorite times of year.

Kayelle, we have a fifty foot pine tree in the front yard the family decorates at Christmas. The ordeal requires climbing, patience, and lots of groaning that begins in November.

That's not the wind you hear, it's hub's moans. The scent of smoke, Vivien, that might be my lights shorting out. :)

gem

Kayelle, lovely blog... you covered most of the bases... okay, not football... I think I also like November because it's a time to pull back a bit before the holidays.

Gem...that might be my lights shorting out. LOL!!! I always wanted a tree to decorate that way. When I had one... well, let's just say LIFE is not so nice at times. But, maybe, I just missed all the frustration.
