Struggling to fit back into civilian life after retiring as a Navy SEAL, he started his own private investigation company, charging a small fortune to find people and their secrets. Recently hired by the wealthy McAllister brothers, finding their long-lost sister should be an easy assignment, right? Wrong. Skyler McAllister is one tough woman who's on the run for her life. She has the smarts, skills and funds to keep herself on the move, and no matter how hard Rob tries, she always seems to be one step ahead of him. Can Rob find her before whoever's chasing her does? Can he deliver her to her brothers and out of harm's way without letting the green-eyed vixen with a stubborn streak get captured? Or will letting his guard down be his most dangerous assignment of all?
Skyler McAllister is on the run. She knows too much and the men who murdered her boyfriend want her dead, too. With her late father's inheritance funding her travels, and her skills forging passports helping her change her name and identity, she's managed to stay under the radar and one step ahead of the bad guys. Only she lets her guard down when sexy, smooth-talking Cahill crosses her path. Not only do his kind eyes make her want to trust again, find a connection and someone to hold onto, but she finds herself falling for him. Only, she hasn't trusted a soul in so long, it doesn't come easily anymore and she struggles to let Rob in.
However, trust is the only way they'll survive. With their lives endangered, can Skyler risk trusting a man again, particularly one who could so easily take her heart, then possibly walk away forever?
Excerpt
“I see … ” She swallowed.
“Asshole, pussy, I can have them both, together or
separate and in any way I choose. And she just gets to lie there and lose her fucking
mind over and over again.”
Skyler took another sip of her arak. “You’re … ”
“Disgusting?” he asked with a smirk. “Perhaps. But I’d
bet every penny your brothers are paying me that you’re wet as fuck right now.”
He watched as she shifted where she sat, rubbing her
thighs together before uncrossing and re-crossing her legs. She gave her legs a
small squeeze and shut her eyes for half a second from how good that touch of
friction must have felt.
He couldn’t get over the level of satisfaction he got from
turning a woman on so entirely with just his words. He could probably write
erotic romance and make a killing.
“What I do may disgust you, but I also know it turns you
on, or at the least the idea of it
all turns you on something fierce.”
She shook her head. She wasn’t going to give him the
satisfaction of knowing how turned on she was. Too late. He could read most
people like a book within minutes of meeting them. And she was no different.
The vein in her neck was pulsing on overdrive, and her breathing had grown
ragged, not to mention those damn nipples, which were trying to pierce their
way through her bikini. Water filled his mouth at the thought of seeing her
pink, puckered nubs. They were probably just screaming to be sucked.
“You’re pretty full of yourself,” she said, crossing her
arms over her chest, which just pushed her awesome rack up and out even more,
giving her the most fuckable cleavage ever.
“You might be a walking, talking sex god, Roberto Cahill,
but you’re also a cocky prick, and no bit of dirty talk and random bits of
Spanish are going to work on me.”
He lifted one shoulder. “Okay.”
Her arms fell to her side, and the look on her face was
priceless. Had she been expecting him to beg her? He didn’t beg. Ever.
She was also a shitty liar. He noticed, as soon they’d
started on this vein of conversation, that her pupils had grown wide, narrowing
that stunning sea of green.
“If you’re finished your drink, I can make you another,
or you’re welcome to just sit here and we can continue chatting. Perhaps about
a topic not so … ” He pinned his gaze on her crossed legs and stifled
a chuckle. “Arousing.”
“Fuck you,” she whispered, though he could tell she was
just playing now.
“You already said there was no chance of that.”
A growl bubbled up from her chest, and she glared at him
as French words he was sure were not kind fell quietly off her plump lips.
“Consent is huge for me, querida. If you want something, you’re going to have to pull up,”
the corner of his mouth crooked up, “or down,
your big girl panties and come out and ask for it. Because I don’t play head
games. I play. Boy, do I know how to play. But not head games. Right? We had
this conversation already. Say what you mean and mean what you say.”
Her mouth drew down into a frown. She finished her drink
and knitted her hands together in her lap. “I’m tired of not … ” She exhaled.
“I’m just so tired.”
He bet she was. Tired of running. Tired of hiding. Tired
of not knowing who she could trust. Tired of not living with her own name and
identity. He’d be tired too.
