Fate arranges the chance meeting of two strangers in need of a little kindness on Christmas Eve. Celebrity Davon Weider, with his navy-blue eyes and muscular physique, can fill the starring role in any woman’s fantasy. But Jasline, a spaceport mech, is more impressed by his five jump speed records.
Excerpt:
The offer was past her lips before she had time to second guess the impulse to take care of another lonely heart. “You can come to my house. It’s just me, and I won’t bother you. But we’d have to stop off at the Pack-It-In to pick up the Christmas dinner I ordered. It serves eight, their minimum order, so there’d be plenty.” She watched him. What would it be like to have Davon Weider spend Christmas with her? She’d be the envy of every woman on Earth. Well, maybe not everyone any more. Poor guy. He needed a shoulder to cry on, and it looked like she’d elected herself to the role.
When his hand dropped, she could see a spark of interest in his navy eyes. “You’re all alone too?”
An almost smile flittered across her lips. “Have been for three years.”
“You’re on.” He pulled her to her feet.
A flutter in her chest stole her breath for a second. Davon Weider. The Davon Weider, sex god extraordinaire, was coming to her house. Dial it back. He’s not looking to get laid. He needs a friend, and face it, you are not Davon Weider bedroom material.
“Don’t forget your hand-held.” She pointed at it as he pulled her after him.
He leaned over and scooped it up. “Thanks.” With a glance over his shoulder at her he asked, “You have a vehicle?”
“No. I take public transport.”
“We’ll use mine.”
Ushered to a metallic blue aircar in VIP parking, Jasline reverently touched the paint on the fender. “A Corona!” Drawing a finger along a curve, she said, “2000 stachine engine with panther injection and triple particle fluctuators.” She stroked the hood. “Does it go as fast as they claim? How stable is it in a 360?” She brought her gaze to his. “How high have you taken it?”
Davon chuckled. “I think you just fell in love with my car.”
Jasline grinned at him. “I think I did.”
“Get in, and I’ll put her through her paces for you. Throw your duffle in the back.”
“Radical.” Jasline slid into the rich leather seat, eyes riveted to the various gauges and monitors that came online as Davon started the engine.
A smile played around his mouth. Then he caught her with his arresting gaze and said, “Ready?”
