Blurb:
Nyx hunts the evil that preys on women to atone for
a sin that’s not hers. After her last hunt, she’s determined to go into
retirement. Meeting Blade a male that’s so obviously alien wasn’t in her plans.
When she gets called into the dream corridor to help him fight, retirement is
the last thing on her mind.
Blade never expected to be called to Earth. His
plans were to die or to fade away until no one remembered his name. That might
have happened if he didn’t meet Nyx. Now they have an enemy in the dream
corridor and a rising passion between them.
If she can get over her refusal to date an alien
male and he can find his soul, they may be able to work together to save the
young males of the earth. Times running out and whatever is lurking in the
dreams of children are ready to step out of the shadows to destroy the world.
Excerpt:
He left the dead man searching out the child. He
had fallen at the top of the steps. Blade couldn’t step out of the dream to
save him, not after all the energy he expended killing the dragon. Blade became
the child’s worst nightmare frightening him into waking up and using fear to
get him through the burning of his home. When he collapsed on the front yard
several people screamed and ran towards him.
Blade collapsed. He didn’t know where he was or
how to get home. He needed sleep, then he would find the way home.
“Blade.” His name was being called from a million
miles away. He wanted to answer, to figure out who was calling him, but he
wanted to sleep more.
“Wake up, darn it.” Someone wasn’t happy with him.
The voice was exasperated and mad at the same time. If it weren’t so delicate,
he would have thought it was King or one of his other brothers.
“If you don’t wake up, I won’t kiss you!” Kiss
him? Who in their right mind would kiss a dream hunter? That’s all they needed
to gain control of your unconscious mind.
“You don’t scare me, wake up.”
The voice was becoming annoying. He curled into
himself to go to sleep.
“I said wake up!”
“I’ve had it with you!” He stood up making his way
to the voice. He would take care of it, then get some sleep.
“Go home, Blade. You don’t want to get lost on
this plane.”
He knew that voice and the gray eyes that went
with it.
“Nyx, what are you doing here?”
“I don’t know. I do know you have to go home. How
will you call me if you’re not home?”
“How will I collect my kiss if I don’t call you?”
She groaned. “You remember that?”
“I do.” Talking to her was clearing his head.
He was still tired, but now he could see the way home. The path was lit for him.
Thousands of small fairies were bidding him adieu as he walked past them.
“Did you just say adieu?”
“It means goodbye.”
“I know what it means. Who says that?’
“Someone working on a historical movie script.
There are so many dreams, each dream has a different cadence, a different way
of thinking, speaking, acting. All of it is mixed up inside of me. It’s all
labeled ‘what it means to be human.’ There are the dreams of those who are
older. They remember a time of cotillions when women didn’t wear pants and
gentlemen tipped their hats. Your world seems to change every twenty years,
whether you like it or not.”
“Change is good for the soul or so I hear. I think
you see it that way because you’re on the outside looking in. Those of us that
are born into this world know change is hard to come by.”
“Thank you, Nyx.” Blade stepped into his room
having made his way home. “I will call you.”
Her voice was fading, but he still heard her.
“I’ll be disappointed if you don’t.”
