She tucked back a stray lock of his blond hair. "Kyrenie is the firestorm planet?"

Khyff nodded.

"What was it like there?"

He made a humming growl before responding. "Do your people believe in hell?"

Mehfawni covered her mouth. "Yes. It is like that?"

"If you were bad in hell, Kyrenie is where they'd send you."

She caught the flicker of a smile in his eyes, and grinned at him. They both laughed.

"Oh, Khyffy." She slid her fingertips down his cheek and along his chin. "You will never have to go there again."

He pressed his brow against hers. She could smell his relief, a sweet fragrance like White Vulits, clean and fresh.

"No one will ever make you do anything you don't want to do again."

His scent abruptly changed. He drew back, head turned aside. Was it that he didn't believe that could happen? Or was there some part of what she'd said that he thought was a lie?

Mehfawni stroked her fingers into his hair and drew him close for a quick kiss. "I want you to believe me, Khyffy." She pressed her cheek against his. "I want to make you feel safe."

He dragged her into his arms.
